Clandestino (Italy)

Head Brewer Pierluigi Chiosi currently produces 14 artisan beers and recently upscaled his brewing facilities to cope with the growing demand for his creations. Taking inspiration from American and British beer styles, Chiosi has developed a style that blends experimentation with an acute sense of flavour – concocting brews that are as original as they are downright tasty. Signatures such as Ri’appala, Montinera and Santa Giulia have brought value to pubs and bars across Italy. Britain is next.

.Piccolo Birrificio Clandestino was established in 2010 by a group of friends looking to put their mark on the Tuscan beer scene. They have certainly achieved that – these days the Livorno-based brewpub not only serves excellent beer but produces it too.
In fact, the brewing arm of PBC has been so successful it has already had to dramatically upgrade its facilities twice to keep up with demand, which increased rapidly after the birrificio earned a flurry of awards in its first couple of years.
Head Brewer Pierluigi Chiosi seems to have the Midas touch when it comes to producing beers that win the approval of judges and everyday drinkers alike. Mixing familiarity and innovation, his brews typically fall within American and British beer styles but feature streaks of Italian originality and flair.
But what comes through most is an instinctual feel for flavour – honed through Chiosi’s years of experimentation as a homebrewer and maintained by PBC’s artisan brewing methods. Among our selection you will find some wonderfully flavourful creations - such as Gatta Nera, a stout/IPA fusion, and Ri’appala, an unusual American IPA.
