Spadetown – the colloquial name for the brewery’s hometown of Lurgan in County Armagh – was founded by beer enthusiasts and friends who were passionate about investing in their local area. Patrick, a successful IT entrepreneur, and Marty, who previously ran a craft brewery when he worked overseas for a large global company, had been mates since school and always envisaged running a business together.
They set up Spadetown Brewery in 2021, just outside Lurgan town centre, and have been crafting a range of popular beers since for sale in bars in Lurgan and Belfast as well as in off sales across Northern Ireland. The brewery currently produces an IPA called IPAhhhh, a Pilsner called Po Faced Pils, a lager called Long Face Lager, and a new red ale called Ragin’ Red with the newest addition being a Dark Cloud Stout, just in time for St. Patricks day.
Having invested in the latest Brewiks equipment at the outset, they recently added to this in an £800,000 investment. This saw three new 2,400 litre fermenters integrate into an existing state-of-the-art automated brewing system to expand the brewery’s production capacity to 2,300,000 litres per annum. Upgrading its packaging facilities, Spadetown has also installed a new canning line. When fully operational, the equipment will fill up to 2,200 cans per hour. Their ongoing investment in the brewery underlines their big ambitions for the company and their commitment to making quality craft beers for beer lovers to enjoy.
