It has been said that the best ideas come from good conversation over a pint - well, that’s our story! From that original "let's open a brewery" to where we are now has been great fun and it is only the start. We have set ourselves the task of creating high quality, original craft beer, using the best ingredients in the highlands of Scotland. We are launching with two beers, No.74 and Spey IPA, both original recipe beers Colin has spent many hours perfecting over the last year. We have big plans for the future, but meanwhile we hope you enjoy our beer and we welcome you to visit us at the brewery in Grantown-on-Spey at any time
Frazer & Colin met in the local pub not long after they both arrived in Grantown-on-Spey. Frazer having just bought a house to renovate and Colin returning home after spending 10 years in New Zealand. Both hit it off straight away and enjoyed many a long and “inspiring” nights drinking ale and whisky in the local bar with their wives Karen and Donna.
Adorned with their usual flat caps both started discussing their like of beer and in particular some of the great new craft beers that are now available. It was one of those bar nights when maybe one too many whiskies had been drunk when the inspiration hit – lets open a craft brewery!
Colin led the beer development side while Frazer worked on brand and marketing. From the start both had the same vision, quality craft beer made in the Highlands with the best ingredients available. With some assistance from handy friends in Grantown the garage at the back of Colin & Donna’s café bar was transformed into the brewery. Colin started brewing on a pilot plant about 8 months ago and in that time perfected the two launch ales – Spey and 74. All of our brewing kit was hand made in Oban on the west coast of Scotland and then assembled in the new brewery in July.
Roughly 12 months after that “one too many” whiskies the brewery is ready and we have great tasting beer. Frazer, Colin, Karen and Donna now also have a friendship for life!
